A quick tip to help you handle the long rough around the Greens.

So you missed the green and your ball comes to rest in some long, thick grass.

Typically, from a good lie, we would be able to chip the ball onto the green and control the spin, but with a ball nestled down, the grass, might become trapped between the clubface and the ball at impact. This will greatly reduce the amount of spin you can impart on the ball. Without much spin, the ball will land on the green and tend to release or roll past the hole.

So, instead of using spin to control the ball, we're going to use trajectory to get the ball to come out high and land softly on the green. We are going play this like a bunker shot.

1.Setup with the ball position slightly forward of Center and the weight favoring the target side.

2. Activate the bounce by opening the club face and hovering it just above the grass.

3. Now make the bunker swing contacting the grass about two inches behind the ball. This will blast the ball out of the rough like a bunker shot producing a lofted flight that will land softly on the green.

So if you find yourself in the long rough around the greens, play it like a bunker shot. Use a blast from the grass to get the ball out and close to the flag.
