Welcome to Youth Golfer Development. If you are looking to add more distance or if you have a youth athlete that tends to pick up their arms in the back swing or sways in the backswing, I've got a fun and engaging drill that uses a crossover sport to help gain more thoracic rotation in the backswing and that crossover sport is Tennis.

For this drill, you will need tennis, balls, golf balls, a tennis, racquet and a chair. Have your athlete stay seated on this drill. This is going to disassociate the lower body from the upper body. Start with the arms straight out in front of you with the tennis racquet and Remember to stay seated. Turn your shoulders and wind them up all the way back.

You can use golf balls, but for indoors we're going to use tennis balls. Toss the tennis ball to the athlete and allow them to swing through making contact, Remember to have them stay seated. Repeat this process, making sure they wind up while sitting on the chair.

Youth athletes want to have fun so make this drill, fun and interactive. Another way we work this drill is to do what I call rapid fire. Get them into position again wind up, start with 3 tennis balls, throwing them one at a time, back to back to back in a rapid fire motion. The goal is to make contact with every ball. fire motion.

Another thing we like to do is what we call bouncing betty. Get the athlete in position again with good rotation. Instead of throwing the ball we are going to bounce the ball to them. This is a great way to also develop their spot vision and distance judging.

This is a awesome drill to teach disassociation from upper body and lower body along with rotation and object control along with distance.
